Blues master distiller Michael Jerome Browne cracks open the vault and brings out two CDs. One electric. One acoustic. Each with a distinctive sound. Both discs are recorded totally live off the floor; one in the studio, the other in front of a live audience.
Double features some stellar special guests: legendary Atlantic Records session pianist and Rhythm & Blues Hall of Fame inductee, (the late) Vann “Piano Man” Walls; guitar whiz Jordan Officer; swing diva Susie Arioli; and blues guitar heroine Sue Foley.
Double is Michael Jerome Browne’s first electric release since his days fronting Montréal’s Stephen Barry Band; it was recorded live at Montréal’s Main Hall in 2006.
The acoustic bonus CD is a re-release of Michael Jerome Browne’s Juno-nominated, critically acclaimed, (self-titled) solo, debut album – until now, a collector’s item.
“Browne’s soulful singing is matched by the depths of his instrumental powers – reservoirs of musical talent – an encyclopedic knowledge of blues styles and history.”
– Sing Out!
“Michael Jerome Browne is a country blues master.”
– Holger Petersen, Saturday Night Blues, CBC Radio
“Michael Jerome Browne gives me that kind of tingle like when I first heard Lead Belly and Big Bill Broonzy.”
– Long John Baldry
